Regional Policy Task Force

What is the Regional policy?

The European Regional Policy develops measures to assist development of less developed EU regions. The policy is important to create stability and sustainable development throughout the European Union, by supporting the least prosperous regions.

EU DG Regional Policy is responsible for managing the following important funds:

  • The Structural Fund which include the European Regional Development Fund
  • The Cohesion Fund and
  • ISPA – The Instrument for Structural Policies for Pre-Accession

Why was the Task Force set up?

The BirdLife Regional Policy Task Force was established in 1993 with the objective of ensuring that EU regional policy does not conflict with BirdLife International priorities and wherever possible actively enhances the priority objectives and recommendations in the BirdLife international Strategy.

What does the Task Force do?

Working on the administration of funds particularly via regulations for funding, the Task Force has been active in proposing measures which will support nature conservation. And getting them included in development of the Regional Policy.

The Task Force also works to promote the consideration of Important Bird Areas to Member States deciding on projects to be funded by the Regional Policyfunds in order to avoid damage to these areas.
