What are National IBA Conservation Strategies?
National IBA Conservation Strategies (NIBACS) are defined as flexible frameworks/documents containing goals, objectives, priorities and mechanisms for IBA conservation that guide all key players to the key priorities and actions needed, and defines their roles.
The aim of NIBACS is to provide a clear focus at a national level for plans and tools and to build consensus for conserving IBAs through collaborative action by stakeholders. BirdLife African Partners may lack the legal mandate and the financial and human resources to manage all the IBAs. But they have the interest, the mission and the focus to bring together various players and make a significant contribution. NIBACS are a very powerful tool to enable Partners to rally the necessary support and obtain the buy in of key stakeholders.
Seven countries have developed NIBAC to guide the integration of IBA conservation in other national conservation processes and mobilization of input from stakeholders.
