Recent Achievements

  • Officially launched the IBA programme in India and established the Indian Bird Conservation Network to involve other interested parties in the process. Seven regional IBA workshops were held to introduce the IBA concept and a list of 1,000 potential sites was prepared.
  • Continued to run a variety of conservation projects. These included an ecological and behavioural study of the critically endangered Forest Owlet funded by the Smithsonian Institute, a study of the sudden and dramatic loss of vulture populations in India, and other projects on birds of prey, Siberian Cranes, a bird banders training programme and a conservation education campaign for the Great Indian Bustard.
